The United States Army Garrison (USAG) Alaska is seeking a talented engineer to join the Directorate of Public Works at Fort Wainwright. What You Will Do:
As a key member of the Technical Engineering Branch, you will:
- Design & Layout: Apply complex mechanical engineering principles to design HVAC systems, plumbing, and a variety of other mechanical systems for military facilities.
- Project Leadership: Prepare scopes of work, design drawings, engineering calculations, and specifications for new construction, modernization, and repair projects.
- Quality Assurance: Review contractor submittals (shop drawings, product data) for technical accuracy and compliance with military and industry standards.
- Field Engineering: Evaluate site conditions, conduct field surveillance to assess contractor performance, and serve as the final on-site technical authority for specialty mechanical projects.
What We Are Looking For:
- Education: A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, OR a combination of education and experience (e.g., PE License, EIT/FE exam, or specified coursework).
- Experience: At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 (for the GS-11 level) or GS-11 (for the GS-12 level) equivalent. This includes experience reviewing contractor submittals, performing field observations, evaluating design documents, and preparing scopes of work/specifications for mechanical systems.
Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, possess a valid Driver's License, and be able to pass a background investigation.
(Note: This is a developmental position with promotion potential to the GS-12 level).
